U.S. Blockade Strains Iranian Economy and Forces Military Pay Cuts, Central Command Says

U.S. Central Command reports a naval blockade has blocked $25 billion in Iranian oil exports, causing severe financial strain across the country's military and public sectors.
A U.S. naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting at least $25 billion worth of crude oil, creating severe cash shortages that have left the regime unable to pay its military forces and civil servants, U.S. Central Command announced Friday. Joint operations with international partners have also frozen nearly $350 million in Iranian cryptocurrency assets.
The economic pressures have forced the Iranian government to withhold salaries, pensions, and benefits across multiple sectors, including energy, manufacturing, construction, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. U.S. military officials noted that regional militia groups aligned with Tehran have begun withholding pay from their own fighters to funnel capital back to the Iranian military.
The financial crunch coincides with intensifying domestic instability and heightened security challenges. In the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, separatist militants have escalated attacks against government targets, resulting in the deaths of at least eight Iranian security personnel over the past three weeks, according to state media reports.
The loss of oil exports—which historically generate about one-third of Iran's state budget—has contributed to an annual inflation rate approaching 90 percent. As the remaining revenue from previously shipped crude runs out, the domestic currency continues to drop sharply, forcing citizens to rely on credit for basic daily necessities.
In response to the economic tightening, Iranian maritime forces have increased aggressive maneuvers and attacks against commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf. Meanwhile, public sector workers and retirees across several Iranian cities have organized strikes and demonstrations over unpaid wages and failing pension benefits.
