Turner-Wohlsen Joint Venture Secures $100M Pennsylvania Museum Expansion

A joint venture between Turner Construction and Wohlsen Construction will build a 40,000-square-foot facility for the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art.

A joint venture formed by Turner Construction Company and Wohlsen Construction has been awarded a $100 million contract to manage a major expansion project at the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.

The expansion features the construction of a new 40,000-square-foot building designed to expand the institution's gallery footprint, educational spaces, and public facilities. Located in Delaware County, the museum is best known for its extensive collections of American art, including primary holdings of work by N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth.

Under the agreement, the joint venture will handle preconstruction, site preparation, and general contracting services for the modern structure. Construction operations will include the integration of advanced climate-control systems essential for protecting delicate artwork, alongside energy-efficient building systems tailored to the site's environmental requirements.

The project site sits along the Brandywine Creek, requiring specialized environmental controls and site management during the build phase. Representatives from the project team stated that preconstruction activities are underway, with heavy site work expected to commence later this year.

The $100 million initiative represents one of the largest physical expansions in the museum's history. Once completed, the new facilities are expected to accommodate higher visitor volumes and support expanded community programming and art conservation efforts.
