TikTok to Close Nashville Office and Lay Off 250 Employees in October

The social media platform will shutter its Tennessee facility and transition content moderation roles to third-party vendors and automated systems.

TikTok will permanently close its office in Nashville, Tennessee, in early October, resulting in the termination of 250 employees. Impacted workers were notified of the decision on August 5 and will remain on the company payroll until the facility officially shuts down, according to company statements.

Following the closure, the company is offering affected personnel a severance package consisting of one month of base pay, along with an additional month of salary for each completed year of service. The company informed staff during an all-hands video call and directed individual inquiries directly to human resources.

A significant portion of the Nashville workforce specialized in trust and safety operations, including content moderation and community guideline enforcement for the platform's U.S. business. The unit operated under TikTok USDS JV, a specialized entity established to handle domestic user data and safety protocols alongside external investment partners.

In a statement, a company spokesperson said the facility closure aims to streamline operations and better align corporate teams for long-term growth. The spokesperson added that the platform remains committed to maintaining secure and positive experiences for its 200 million American users.

The move coincides with a broader operational shift by the company to rely more heavily on third-party contractors and internal artificial intelligence tools to handle content moderation. TikTok continues to maintain trust and safety staff across other U.S. locations, including Seattle, New York, California, and Scottsdale.
