TikTok Launches 'Must Eat' Restaurant Guide to Compete With Google Maps and Yelp
The new in-app feature compiles video reviews, user comments, and location data to offer dining recommendations and reservations.

TikTok announced the launch of an in-app restaurant recommendation feature called "Must Eat" on Wednesday, stepping into direct competition with established local search and mapping services including Yelp and Google Maps.
The new tool aggregates short-form video content, reviews, and localized discussions regarding dining venues to create curated recommendation guides. Built upon a repository of more than 40 million existing user posts, reviews, and comments on the platform, the feature allows individuals to discover nearby eateries using an interactive map interface.
In addition to viewing video reviews of local food establishments, app users can submit their own customer ratings, place direct phone calls to businesses, and secure table reservations through integrated booking mechanisms inside the application.
At a launch event announcing the utility, TikTok U.S. Chief Executive Officer Adam Presser characterized the feature as a centralized compilation of the extensive dining discussions taking place across the network every day. The system aims to convert viral food trends into actionable dining choices for local consumers.
The addition of map navigation and booking capabilities marks an expansion of the platform's core functional scope, positioning it to capture local search traffic traditionally dominated by specialized business directories and web navigation applications.
