Tesla Roadster Reservations Open With Delivery and Legality Disclaimers

Reservation terms for Tesla's newly unveiled thrust-powered Roadster state that delivery is not guaranteed and pricing remains subject to change.

Tesla has opened reservations of up to $250,000 for its newly unveiled thrust-powered Roadster, though official customer agreements indicate that vehicle delivery is not guaranteed and final purchase prices remain unconfirmed.

The electric vehicle features a specialized cold-gas thruster system capable of propelling the car from zero to 60 mph in under one second, alongside aerial demonstration capabilities. Chief Executive Elon Musk stated during the vehicle's unveiling that production is targeted to begin in 2028. However, reservation terms specify that the model is still actively under development, and the manufacturer offers no guarantee that the vehicle will ultimately reach production or be delivered to reservation holders.

Financial terms outlined in the purchase agreement clarify that reservation fees for the vehicle's Performance and Thrust variants represent estimates rather than locked-in retail prices. Tesla noted that final vehicle pricing will be confirmed closer to the start of manufacturing as hardware, software options, and standard features are finalized. Reservation payments remain fully refundable and will apply toward the final purchase price upon release.

Regulatory compliance for public roadway use varies across the vehicle's planned trim levels. The top-tier Rocket variant carries disclaimers stating it is not approved for public road use and is restricted to track or specialized environments. Meanwhile, the base Performance model—which requires a $50,000 reservation fee—is listed as road-ready, and the limited Thrust edition is designated primarily for racing circuits.
