Permit filings show Tesla proposes one of its largest urban electric vehicle charging stations near major San Francisco highway interchanges.
Tesla has submitted permit applications to construct a 124-stall Supercharger station in San Francisco, marking a major expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure within a densely populated urban center. The proposed facility would be located at 75 Waterloo Street, a triangular parcel near the junction of U.S. Route 101 and Interstate 280.
City filings indicate the site will feature Tesla's fourth-generation charging stalls configured in a conventional parking layout. The station is designed to operate 24 hours a day and includes a 416-square-foot facility housing restrooms, water fountains, and vending machines. Current site drawings do not incorporate solar canopies or battery storage systems.
Urban charging hubs of this magnitude remain uncommon in major U.S. cities due to elevated real estate costs. Tesla typically places its largest installations along interstate corridors, such as a 164-stall location in Kern County, California, and a planned 200-stall hub in Florida. The Waterloo Street project would represent one of the automaker's largest urban charging sites globally.
The selected San Francisco location sits near major transit routes linking the city to Silicon Valley, San Francisco International Airport, and dense residential neighborhoods including Bernal Heights and the Bayview district. The filing follows a separate application submitted in May for a 35-stall Supercharger station on Mason Street in downtown San Francisco.
The latest revision of the permit application was submitted on July 29. The project remains under review by city regulatory authorities, and no official timeline for construction or completion has been announced.
