SheMed Expands Research Beyond Weight Loss Following 8,000-Patient Study
A study of more than 8,000 women using GLP-1 therapies showed significant reductions in blood sugar and cholesterol alongside weight loss.

SheMed released findings from a clinical tracking study involving more than 8,000 women, showing that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications yielded broad health improvements beyond standard weight reduction. Participants experienced notable decreases in blood sugar levels and improvements in cholesterol profiles alongside body weight loss.
The telehealth company, which achieved a valuation of $1 billion primarily through weight management programs, is shifting its strategic focus toward broader therapeutic applications for GLP-1 class drugs. Company leadership indicated that the latest data supports exploring GLP-1 therapies for metabolic, cardiovascular, and endocrine health conditions.
Data collected during the multi-month evaluation indicated that patients registered consistent metabolic improvements across several biomarkers. Researchers noted that positive health indicators extended to participants who achieved moderate weight loss, suggesting independent cardiovascular and metabolic mechanisms at work.
GLP-1 receptor agonists have seen rapid adoption across the healthcare sector over the past two years, primarily driven by demand for obesity treatments. SheMed's initiative represents a broader movement within the pharmaceutical and digital health space to position these medications as long-term preventative health interventions.
The company plans to expand its research initiatives to evaluate how sustained GLP-1 regimens affect long-term health outcomes in women across different age demographics. Additional clinical trials focusing on specific metabolic conditions are expected to begin later this year.
