Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice described his recent 30-day jail stint in Texas as a learning experience following a probation violation.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice spoke publicly Tuesday for the first time since serving a 30-day jail sentence in Texas this summer, describing the period as a mentally challenging reality check and a learning experience.

Rice, 26, was booked into a Dallas County jail on May 19 after violating the terms of his probation. The probation stemmed from his role in a multi-vehicle crash on a Texas highway that resulted in injuries to several people and led to a league suspension during a previous season.

The incarceration took place approximately one week after Rice underwent surgery on his right knee to clear out debris that caused persistent inflammation throughout much of last season. Rice noted that he was able to communicate with his athletic trainers and teammates during his time in custody to manage his physical recovery.

Upon his release in June, Rice resumed his rehabilitation program at the team facility in Kansas City alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was also recovering from knee ligament surgery. Rice has since returned to full participation as the Chiefs conduct training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Over his first three seasons in the National Football League, Rice has recorded 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns in 28 appearances. He played a key role in helping Kansas City capture a Super Bowl victory following the 2023 campaign, despite missing multiple games due to injuries and off-field disciplinary actions.
