Retailer Walmart has reduced the digital price of Nintendo's real-time strategy game ahead of an upgraded version scheduled for release in late 2026.
Retail giant Walmart has reduced the digital price of Nintendo’s strategy title Pikmin 4 for the Nintendo Switch to $39.88, offering a discount of more than $20 off its standard retail price of $59.99. The price cut comes as Nintendo prepares to transition the title to its upcoming hardware platform.
Nintendo recently announced that a dedicated version of Pikmin 4 for the Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on Nov. 12, 2026. The standalone release for the new system is set to be priced at $69.99 at retail.
Under Nintendo's planned upgrade structure, current owners of the standard Switch version will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for a $10 fee. By purchasing the discounted digital code now and subsequently paying the upgrade fee, players can effectively acquire the next-generation version for $49.88, representing a $20 net discount compared to the standalone next-generation software price.
The planned Switch 2 edition will feature enhanced graphic performance and visual fidelity, along with added functionality such as voice controls for the game's companion character. The updated release will also introduce a new challenge mode called Dandori Academy, which adds recurring gameplay tasks over time.
Originally released in July 2023, Pikmin 4 expands on the real-time strategy formula of earlier entries in the franchise. The game incorporates new mechanics, such as a canine companion to assist in puzzle-solving and navigation, alongside a narrative that explores deeper themes than previous titles in the series.
