PCL Completes Seattle Amtrak Maintenance Hub $50 Million Under Budget
Amtrak will reallocate $50 million in savings from the newly completed Seattle train maintenance facility toward other national rail infrastructure projects.

Construction of Amtrak's new rail maintenance facility in Seattle has concluded on schedule and under budget, contractor PCL announced. The builder completed the project for $200 million, coming in $50 million below the original $250 million contract price.
The Seattle facility was designed and built to service Amtrak's new fleet of Airo trains, which are slated to enter service across regional routes. The modernized hub includes specialized equipment, maintenance bays, and administrative space tailored to support the advanced technological specifications of the incoming trainsets.
Amtrak plans to redirect the $50 million in savings toward additional capital investments across its national passenger rail network. Officials indicated the reallocated funds will support ongoing infrastructure upgrades, facility modernizations, and track improvement projects in other regions.
The completion of the maintenance site marks a critical step in preparing West Coast operations for the Airo fleet rollout. The new trainsets are designed to enhance operational reliability, reduce carbon emissions, and provide upgraded amenities for rail passengers.
Full operational readiness at the Seattle maintenance site will coincide with the arrival of the first Airo equipment. The project's completion without schedule delays or cost overruns reflects effective project management during a period of nationwide infrastructure expansion.
