OpenAI to Introduce Advertisements to ChatGPT Users

Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI plans to roll out brand promotions to more than 100 million users while maintaining that answer quality will remain unaffected.
OpenAI plans to begin displaying advertisements within its ChatGPT conversational interface to an audience of more than 100 million active users. The initiative marks a major expansion in the artificial intelligence company's monetization strategy as it seeks to broaden revenue streams beyond subscription offerings.
The initial rollout will feature commercial promotions from approximately 50 global brands. To facilitate the push, OpenAI is working with several major advertising agencies to manage creative placements and brand integrations directly within the chat interface.
Company officials emphasized that sponsored content will remain distinct from standard generated text. OpenAI assured users that advertiser payments will not influence the accuracy, objectivity, or content of the answers provided by its machine learning models.
Commercial disclosures will be clearly marked to distinguish paid promotions from organic responses. The decision to enter the digital advertising market aligns with broader industry efforts to offset the significant infrastructure and computing costs associated with operating high-capacity generative artificial intelligence platforms.
Previously dependent on paid subscription tiers and software developer license fees, the platform now aims to leverage its massive free-tier user base. Additional operational guidelines regarding user privacy, data tracking, and ad delivery mechanics are scheduled to be released ahead of the public launch.
