Under the agreement, the company will deploy charger units designed to integrate directly into existing urban streetscapes. The initiative aims to provide charging access for vehicle owners who lack private driveways or dedicated parking spaces, addressing a primary barrier to electric vehicle adoption in densely populated neighborhoods.

The project transitions the city's curbside charging strategy from temporary pilot tests to a long-term municipal infrastructure model. The technology relies on connecting low-profile chargers to the electrical supplies of adjacent private properties, avoiding the need for extensive utility trenching beneath city roadways.

City leaders have targeted a significant reduction in transportation emissions over the coming decade, with goals to expand publicly available chargers into underserved communities. The contract requires deployment across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island to ensure equitable geographic coverage.
