Microsoft Tests Enhanced Xbox Gaming Shortcuts and Search Features in Windows 11 Build

Microsoft has released a new preview build for Windows 11 Insiders, introducing streamlined system controls within Xbox gaming mode alongside an expanded set of desktop search capabilities across the operating system.

Under the new update, users operating in Xbox full-screen mode can access a redesigned quick settings overlay. The control panel enables instant adjustments to key hardware and network configurations, including Bluetooth pairings, Wi-Fi connections, and device power options, eliminating the need to minimize or close active games.

The build also substantially upgrades the built-in Windows search tool, incorporating structured filters designed for files, system utilities, and online content. The search interface now functions as an actionable command bar, allowing users to alter screen brightness, adjust audio output levels, and interact directly with paired mobile devices to initiate voice calls.

Additional search enhancements focus on file metadata and live information delivery. Detailed search queries now display contextual background information, such as document authorship and exact last-modified timestamps, alongside real-time web data including financial market stock charts and localized weather updates.

These capabilities are currently undergoing preliminary testing within the Windows Insider preview channel. Development teams are expected to refine the functionalities based on developer and participant input prior to deploying the features to the general Windows 11 user base in a future public software release.
