Meta has released a dedicated Threads application for its Meta Quest virtual reality devices, expanding the social media platform across its hardware portfolio.
Meta Platforms Inc. announced Tuesday the official launch of a dedicated Threads application for its Meta Quest virtual reality headsets. The release brings the company's rapidly growing social network into its virtual reality ecosystem, allowing Quest device owners to interact with the service directly in immersive environments.
The standalone VR application includes standard core features found on mobile and desktop versions. According to product details, users can browse primary feeds, draft new posts, interact through likes and replies, search for topics, view user profiles, and watch video content within their virtual workspace.
The Quest software release represents Meta's latest effort to integrate its software services across its hardware portfolio. Last month, the company added Threads capabilities to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, enabling users to access text updates through augmented reality displays.
The hardware expansion coincides with broader user growth for the platform. Meta recently disclosed that Threads has surpassed 500 million monthly active users, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing social media platforms in the company's product suite.
Meta stated that the integration is designed to enhance social connectivity within virtual reality, allowing users to keep up with online discussions while gaming or using other software. The application is available for download through the Quest Store starting Tuesday.
