Meta has released its television-focused Instagram application on Apple TV, expanding the platform's video content to living room screens.
Meta Platforms Inc. has expanded its television-focused Instagram application to Apple TV, bringing short-form video content and live broadcasts to another major smart television platform. The software integration allows users to view the social media network's video catalog directly on larger living room displays.
The specialized application prioritizes Instagram Reels, public live streams, and standard video posts formatted specifically for widescreen displays. The interface incorporates navigation tailored for physical media remotes rather than mobile touchscreen controls, adapting the mobile experience for home entertainment systems.
The rollout follows a limited testing phase for television-focused video content that began late last year. Meta subsequently introduced dedicated software features for the application across several competing smart television platforms in June, including Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TVs, and Google TV devices.
With the addition of Apple TV compatibility, the video-centric application is now accessible across most dominant smart television ecosystems. Users can download the updated application directly through the integrated app marketplace on supported set-top boxes and smart televisions.
The move reflects an ongoing effort among social media companies to extend short-form video consumption beyond mobile devices into traditional home viewing environments. Meta has not outlined specific timeline plans for further hardware platform deployments.
