Lowe's Foundation Partners With Corporate Giants to Train 1 Million Workers

A coalition including NVIDIA and General Motors aims to expand the nationwide construction labor force by 2035 through a new trade training initiative.
The Lowe’s Foundation has launched a major workforce development initiative aimed at training 1 million craft workers across the United States by 2035. The philanthropic arm of the home improvement retailer is partnering with several prominent corporate entities, including technology firm NVIDIA and automaker General Motors, to address long-standing labor shortages in the building trades.
The initiative seeks to recruit, train, and place skilled trade professionals across various sectors, including construction, electrical, and mechanical fields. By pooling corporate funding and operational resources, the coalition plans to scale existing vocational training programs and establish new career pathways for prospective tradespeople.
Persistent labor shortages have constrained the domestic construction and industrial sectors in recent years. Ongoing retirement waves coupled with lower historical entry rates among younger demographics have created a deficit of hundreds of thousands of skilled workers necessary to meet national infrastructure demands.
Under the new partnership framework, participating corporations will contribute specialized technical resources, technology integration, and curriculum support aligned with modern industry standards. NVIDIA’s role will emphasize the integration of advanced digital tools and technology training into trade instruction modules.
The expansion will focus on supporting community colleges, non-profit vocational organizations, and regional trade academies nationwide over the coming decade. Additional details regarding grant allocations and program rollout schedules are expected to be released in future phases.
