Fairmont Re-enters New Orleans Market With Landmark 100th Global Hotel Opening
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has officially opened Fairmont New Orleans, according to Lodging Magazine. The 250-room property marks the brand’s return to the city after a 20-year absence and serves as the 100th hotel in the company’s worldwide portfolio, featuring a flagship partnership with chef Emeril Lagasse and his hospitality group.

Context from Industry Pulse
The opening of Fairmont New Orleans signifies a strategic return to a major American hospitality hub while reaching a significant scale milestone for the brand. By occupying the former Bank of New Orleans building, the project aligns with broader industry trends of adaptive reuse and historic preservation. The integration of high-profile local partners, such as Emeril Lagasse and Neal Bodenheimer, suggests a localized strategy intended to appeal to both international travelers and the resident community. Furthermore, the inclusion of extensive meeting spaces and specialized suites indicates a dual focus on capturing the rebounding group travel sector and the high-end leisure market in the Central Business District.
"This magnificent property is designed to be a vibrant social epicenter, a sanctuary where the city’s rich heritage meets a sophisticated, contemporary energy."
The new luxury destination occupies 17 floors of the historic 31-story Bank of New Orleans building within the Central Business District. As Lodging Magazine reports, the structure was originally designed in 1970 by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The development project, led by Kailas Companies, focused on extensive restoration efforts for the site’s original mid-century architectural features. These include the preservation of the entrance canopy, lobby flooring, and specific concrete interior walls, alongside decorative bronze paneling and cypress wood ceilings on the second level.
Culinary offerings serve as a central component of the property’s identity through a collaboration with The Emeril Group. According to Lodging Magazine, the hotel hosts the first New Orleans location of Delmonico Steakhouse, which previously only operated in Las Vegas. This venue focuses on dry-aged beef and premium seafood. Additionally, The Café by Emeril provides a brasserie-style environment for daytime dining, blending French techniques with Creole and Southern culinary influences.
Beyond dining, the hotel includes more than 19,000 square feet of dedicated space for meetings and events. Lodging Magazine notes that the infrastructure is designed to accommodate groups ranging from ten individuals to 500 guests across nine distinct venues. The guest accommodations include specialized loft suites on the upper floors, featuring double-height windows with views of the Caesars Superdome, wet bars with brass fixtures, and glass-railed sleeping areas.
Expansion of the hotel’s amenities will continue into early December with the opening of a 10,000-square-foot wellness center and rooftop facilities. As reported by Lodging Magazine, these additions include a spa with a skyline-view sauna and a fitness studio equipped with Matrix Onyx technology. The rooftop will house Bleu Perdu, a bistro-style terrace, and Third Measure, a cocktail bar developed with Neal Bodenheimer that references the city’s historical beverage traditions.
The Industry Pulse Bottom Line
Fairmont’s 100th property demonstrates how legacy brands use historic renovations and local culinary partnerships to re-establish presence in competitive markets after long absences, blending global luxury standards with regional cultural identity.
