JE Dunn Selected for $480 Million Modernization at Minneapolis Airport

The Metropolitan Airports Commission has awarded Kansas City-based general contractor JE Dunn a contract to manage a $480 million modernization and expansion project at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. The company will serve as the construction manager at risk for the extensive facility upgrades.

Under the terms of the agreement, the capital improvement initiative will focus on updating existing airport infrastructure and expanding terminal capacity to accommodate growing passenger volumes. Work is expected to encompass major structural renovations, passenger flow enhancements, and updated facility systems.

As construction manager at risk, JE Dunn will provide preconstruction services, including cost estimating and scheduling, before overseeing the direct procurement and management of subcontractors during the physical construction phase. This project delivery method sets a guaranteed maximum price for the work, mitigating potential cost overruns for the aviation authority.

The commission's decision marks one of the largest single infrastructure awards for the airport authority in recent years. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport serves as a primary hub in the Upper Midwest, handling tens of millions of travelers annually through its two commercial terminals.

Detailed planning and preliminary engineering work are scheduled to proceed immediately. Construction phases will be structured across the multi-year project timeline to minimize operational disruptions to daily flight schedules and passenger movement throughout the complex.
