Jacobs Selected for Project Management Role on $37B AEP Transmission Program

Dallas-based engineering and consulting firm Jacobs has secured a major project management role supporting American Electric Power’s $37 billion electric transmission capital program. Under the agreement, Jacobs will provide integrated delivery services across the multi-year grid infrastructure initiative.

The five-year contract tasks Jacobs with overseeing program management, project controls, technical execution, and construction oversight. The services will support widespread upgrades across American Electric Power's network, which operates as the largest electric transmission system in the United States.

The multi-billion-dollar program is designed to enhance overall grid reliability, replace aging electrical infrastructure, and facilitate the integration of new energy generation sources. American Electric Power's transmission system encompasses more than 40,000 miles of high-voltage lines spanning 11 states throughout the Midwest and South.

Jacobs plans to deploy program management systems and technical specialists to streamline execution across the utility's multi-state service footprint. The firm will collaborate directly with internal utility personnel to manage project schedules, procurement logistics, environmental compliance, and risk management operations.

The selection highlights continuing capital deployment across the domestic utility sector as companies increase investments to strengthen power delivery networks against severe weather and rising electricity demand. Operations under the new management contract are expected to begin immediately.
