Jeff Glover Shifts Glover Agency to Independent Status After 17 Years with KW

Jeff Glover has transitioned his Michigan-based Glover Agency to a fully independent brokerage as of November 1, according to Inman. The move ends a 17-year tenure with Keller Williams and follows the August sale of Glover’s ownership stakes in three market centers, signaling a strategic pivot to expand his coaching and training business, Glover U.

    Context from Industry Pulse

Jeff Glover’s decision to go independent contrasts with recent industry-wide consolidation trends, such as the mergers involving Compass and Anywhere or Real and REMAX. While many smaller firms are seeking the stability of larger platforms, Glover is prioritizing the neutrality of his coaching business over the support of a national franchise. This shift highlights a growing tension for high-producing team leaders who operate secondary businesses: the very brand that provides local legitimacy can become a liability when attempting to scale services to competitors. By exiting the franchise system, Glover is betting that the autonomy to train agents across all brands outweighs the benefits of Keller Williams' national infrastructure.

The transition to an independent model serves as a strategic maneuver to eliminate brand-related barriers for Glover U, the coaching arm where Glover now focuses the majority of his professional time. According to Inman, Glover previously encountered resistance from competing brokerage leaders who were hesitant to allow a Keller Williams affiliate to train their agents. By removing the franchise connection, Glover aims to position his training company as a brand-agnostic resource for the entire real estate industry across the United States and Canada.

The agency currently operates four offices in Michigan located in Grand Rapids, Fenton, Plymouth, and Birmingham. While the firm was previously a top-performing team within the Keller Williams system, it has historically marketed itself heavily under its own name via television and radio. Inman reports that Glover intends to leverage this existing brand recognition to offer agents more flexibility in building their individual identities without the constraints of franchise advertising regulations.

Operational leadership for the newly independent brokerage remains under CEO Taylor Kerrigan, while Glover continues to participate in active listing and sales activities. The move comes shortly after the sale of Glover’s three market centers, which collectively generated nearly $1 billion in sales volume during 2025. This divestment was the first step in ensuring that none of the entities under the Live Unreal Companies umbrella are tied to a specific national brand.

Despite the departure, Glover maintains a mentorship relationship with Gary Keller and credited his time at the franchise for his professional growth. As Inman notes, the agency has sold more than 10,000 homes and has held the title of the top homeselling team in Michigan for 11 of the last 13 years. The firm will now focus exclusively on the Michigan market while pursuing growth for the coaching business on a continental scale.

    The Industry Pulse Bottom Line

Glover’s move illustrates how elite teams are increasingly prioritizing their own brand equity and ancillary businesses over franchise affiliations to remove growth ceilings and eliminate perceived conflicts of interest in the coaching sector.
