In-N-Out Burger Prepares Expansion into Three Additional States
The fast-food chain is broadening its footprint while maintaining supply chain constraints that keep certain U.S. regions off-limits.

IRVINE, Calif. — In-N-Out Burger is preparing to expand its restaurant network into three additional U.S. states as part of its ongoing growth strategy. The family-owned fast-food chain plans to establish new locations while adhering to strict operational guidelines that dictate where its restaurants can operate.
The California-based company has steadily broadened its presence beyond the West Coast in recent years, opening sites across the Southwest and parts of the South. The latest expansion plan targets three new state markets, continuing a measured territorial growth model that relies on establishing regional supply infrastructure before opening storefronts.
Company leadership reaffirmed that expansion remains strictly limited by supply chain requirements, specifically proximity to corporate distribution hubs. Because the chain relies on fresh beef and unfrozen ingredients, all restaurants must be located within a 300-mile radius of an operational distribution center. This policy continues to keep distant geographic regions off-limits from development.
Unlike many major quick-service restaurant brands, In-N-Out operates exclusively company-owned locations and does not franchise. Executive management confirmed that maintaining private ownership and centralized quality controls remains central to the company's long-term operational business model.
Founded in 1948 in Baldwin Park, California, In-N-Out currently operates more than 400 locations across several states, including California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho. Opening dates and specific municipal sites for the new state developments have not yet been disclosed.
