House House Skips Xbox Release for 'Big Walk' Over BDS Movement Target

The developer excluded Microsoft's console from its multiplayer title in response to corporate contracts with the Israeli military.

Independent video game developer House House has confirmed it intentionally omitted Microsoft’s Xbox platforms from the release of its cooperative multiplayer title, "Big Walk," in adherence to the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement.

The title, which launched in August on participating digital storefronts and personal computer platforms, features cooperative walking and communication-focused gameplay. It has built a substantial player base since its debut, but Xbox console owners were entirely excluded from the launch lineup without initial explanation.

In a public statement detailing the decision, the studio explained that the choice aligns with targeted boycott initiatives established by the BDS coalition. The coalition designated Microsoft as a priority target last year, citing corporate contracts that provide cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence technologies to the Israeli military and government agencies.

The boycott directives specifically call for consumers and third-party developers to avoid engagement with Microsoft products, explicitly extending the campaign to the corporation's gaming division and Xbox hardware ecosystem. House House indicated that distributing the game on Xbox platforms would contravene the boycott guidelines.

Decisions by independent video game studios to withhold titles from major console platforms for geopolitical reasons remain relatively rare within the interactive entertainment industry. As of publication, Microsoft has not issued a public response regarding the developer's platform strategy or the broader boycott campaign.
