Historic Oheka Castle Estate Set for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Auction

A court-supervised auction will sell the historic Long Island estate, requiring the winning bidder to honor pre-booked events through 2028.

Oheka Castle, the historic French Chateau-style estate located on Long Island, is heading to a bankruptcy auction following a Chapter 11 filing. The court-ordered sale encompasses the property itself, its operational hotel business, and all existing development rights tied to the site.

Under the terms of the transaction, the winning bidder must assume a major operational requirement to honor all pre-booked events. Existing bookings for weddings, corporate functions, and private gatherings currently extend into 2028, ensuring scheduled operations continue under new ownership.

Situated on more than 22 acres in Huntington, New York, the estate is widely recognized as one of the largest private residential structures in the United States. In addition to functioning as a venue for high-profile events, the historic property features a 32-room luxury hotel, manicured gardens, and dining facilities.

The auction process will be conducted under federal court supervision to satisfy outstanding debt obligations. Prospective purchasers will be required to demonstrate financial qualification as well as the capacity to fulfill all operational contracts associated with the venue.

Daily operations at the hotel and event space will remain active throughout the bidding and ownership transition period. Specific auction dates, stalking horse bidder designations, and minimum bid thresholds are expected to be finalized in upcoming court proceedings.
