Google expands its free streaming service with a catalog of over 10,000 on-demand titles and more than 300 live television channels.
Google has updated its free, ad-supported streaming service, Google TV Freeplay, to include full video-on-demand capabilities for viewers. The platform update allows users to select specific television shows and feature films to stream at any time, expanding beyond the service's traditional format of strictly scheduled linear broadcasts.
Under the expanded content model, the service now offers access to a digital library containing more than 10,000 on-demand titles at no extra cost. Initial offerings integrated into the platform include recognized feature films such as 'Lady Bird' and 'Seventeen Again,' as well as multi-season television programs like 'Hell's Kitchen.'
Alongside the on-demand feature, Google has expanded its live linear television lineup to more than 300 channels. The continuous streaming options span multiple programming categories, including national news, live sports coverage, reality television, true crime documentaries, and lifestyle content.
Recent channel additions to the live television roster include dedicated programming feeds such as World of Love Island, Yahoo! Sports Network, Bloomberg TV Plus, and The Martha Stewart Channel. Viewers can navigate these direct feeds using the built-in channel guide.
The free, ad-supported streaming model relies on advertising revenue rather than user subscription fees. The updated features are currently rolling out across compatible smart televisions, streaming media players, and devices integrated with the Google TV platform.
