Italian confectioner Ferrero has boosted its annual U.S. revenue to $3 billion following a series of major acquisitions in the American food sector.
Italian confectioner Ferrero has expanded its presence in the U.S. food market, growing its domestic annual revenue from $600 million in 2017 to roughly $3 billion. The privately held manufacturer now generates approximately 15 percent of its global revenue within the U.S., up from 4 percent a decade ago.
The growth follows a series of major acquisitions over the past decade totaling billions of dollars. Ferrero expanded its mainstream American footprint in 2017 with the $115 million purchase of Fannie May, followed by a $2.8 billion acquisition of Nestlé's U.S. confectionery division in 2018 and the purchase of Kellogg's cookie and fruit-snack businesses in 2019.
Most recently, the company completed a $3.1 billion acquisition of WK Kellogg, adding major breakfast cereal lines including Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops to its portfolio. Ferrero North America leadership stated the company has directed more than $5 billion into U.S. investments over the past five years to acquire established brands and support domestic manufacturing.
Alongside acquisitions, the company has built out its domestic manufacturing and research infrastructure. In 2023, Ferrero opened a 45,000-square-foot innovation center in Chicago to formulate products tailored specifically to American consumer preferences, including milk chocolate and peanut-based offerings.
The company also invested $75 million in a dedicated production line at its Franklin Park, Illinois, facility to support new domestic product launches. Additional regional investments include a specialized production facility in Bloomington, Illinois, as part of the manufacturer's broader North American expansion.
