DOT Awards $426 Million for Critical Infrastructure Projects

Major federal grants include key highway construction and expansion projects in Kentucky and Florida.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $426 million in federal grants to support critical infrastructure projects across the country. The comprehensive funding package targets high-priority highway, bridge, and freight initiatives intended to improve supply chain efficiency and enhance roadway safety standards nationwide.

The largest individual project grant in the announcement provides $85.1 million to the state of Kentucky. That funding will support the construction of an eight-mile, four-lane highway corridor designed to accommodate rising traffic volumes, reduce regional congestion, and strengthen commercial freight connections.

Florida secured another significant portion of the total package, receiving $85 million to expand highway capacity. The grant will fund lane additions along approximately 20 miles of Interstate 4, a major thoroughfare that regularly handles heavy commuter traffic and critical freight distribution.

Additional funding under the federal initiative will be distributed to a range of state and municipal transportation agencies. These smaller allocations are earmarked for localized safety upgrades, bridge rehabilitations, and traffic management systems intended to optimize existing transit networks.

Recipient transportation authorities will oversee project execution, moving into final design phases, environmental reviews, and public bidding processes. Implementation schedules and construction timelines are expected to be finalized as local administrators complete formal grant agreements.
