SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — The Imagination Library, a global book gifting program founded by country music artist Dolly Parton, has surpassed 330 million free books distributed to young children worldwide. The milestone comes as the organization expands its administrative framework to ensure long-term operational continuity.

Established in 1995 to foster early childhood literacy in Sevier County, Tennessee, the program has scaled globally through a franchise-style model. Local community partners manage funding and logistics within their respective regions, while the central foundation provides procurement, distribution systems, and publisher relations.

The foundation’s governance structure has increasingly focused on institutionalizing operations to maintain sustainability independent of Parton’s personal involvement. Corporate leadership and philanthropic advisors have structured the non-profit to run on established endowments and partner networks across five countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

Under the expansion strategy, local affiliates cover half the cost of books and mailing, while the central organization subsidizes the remainder. This cost-sharing structure has allowed the program to mail more than 2 million books per month without relying solely on direct corporate sponsorships or single-donor contributions.

Organizational representatives stated that current strategic planning centers on securing additional regional commitments to ensure the foundation’s distribution metrics remain stable over the next decade.
