A joint venture involving Clark Construction and Mortenson will lead the development of a 65,000-seat stadium for the Washington Commanders.

The Washington Commanders have selected a joint venture comprising Clark Construction Group and Mortenson to oversee the development and construction of a new $3.8 billion stadium in Washington, D.C. Franchise officials announced the selection on Tuesday, marking a major step forward in the team's efforts to replace its current venue.

The proposed venue will feature a capacity of 65,000 seats and is being planned as a modern, multi-purpose facility. In addition to hosting National Football League games, the stadium is intended to accommodate major concerts, international sporting events, and year-round commercial activities.

Under the partnership, the two construction companies will manage pre-construction planning, engineering services, procurement, and site logistics. The joint venture combines the regional presence of Bethesda, Maryland-based Clark Construction with the extensive national sports facility portfolio of Minneapolis-based Mortenson.

Mortenson has served as primary builder on several high-profile stadium projects, including US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Clark Construction has led major capital projects across the Washington metropolitan area, including civic centers, transport hubs, and professional athletic venues.

Detailed construction schedules, final architectural designs, and additional funding details are expected to be unveiled as the project progresses through necessary regulatory reviews and zoning approvals with district officials.
