Caterpillar, Ultium Cells Lead $1 Billion Manufacturing Investment Push

Major capital expenditure announcements this week include new facilities and expansions for Caterpillar, Ultium Cells, Genentech, and Avio USA.

Industrial, pharmaceutical, and aerospace manufacturers announced a wave of capital expenditures this week, highlighted by more than $1 billion in combined facility investments from Caterpillar Inc. and Ultium Cells LLC.

Heavy machinery manufacturer Caterpillar and battery joint venture Ultium Cells are allocating the capital toward expanding their respective domestic manufacturing operations. The strategic commitments are designed to enhance specialized production capacity and bolster supply chains for both heavy construction equipment and advanced electric vehicle batteries.

Concurrently, biotechnology leader Genentech broke ground on a major facility expansion dedicated to device fill-finish operations. The upgraded site will increase localized capacity for assembling, filling, and packaging modern medical devices and pharmaceutical delivery systems to meet rising customer demand.

Aerospace contractor Avio USA also initiated construction on a new manufacturing plant tailored specifically for solid rocket motors. The facility will produce tactical propulsion hardware designed to support domestic defense programs as well as commercial spaceflight operations.

The simultaneous project rollouts underscore sustained corporate spending across critical sectors of the national industrial base, including clean energy technology, healthcare, and national security.

Construction activities across the respective development sites are scheduled to proceed over the coming quarters, with full operational integration targeted following project completion.
