Burns & McDonnell Completes Segment of $145M Missouri Water Project
The completion marks the delivery of Missouri's largest membrane bioreactor system through a progressive design-build agreement with the city of Republic.

Engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell has completed a key phase of a $145 million water infrastructure modernization project in Republic, Missouri. The project milestone includes the operational delivery of Missouri’s largest membrane bioreactor facility designed to enhance municipal wastewater processing capabilities.
The construction effort was conducted under a progressive design-build partnership between the contractor and the city of Republic. This procurement approach allowed design and construction teams to work concurrently with municipal leaders to expedite project timelines and control capital costs.
The newly operational membrane bioreactor system combines advanced biological treatment with physical membrane separation technologies. The upgraded infrastructure substantially increases the municipality's daily water treatment capacity while meeting stringent regional environmental discharge standards.
Municipal officials authorized the multi-phase infrastructure expansion in response to sustained residential and commercial growth in the Republic area. Prior to the completion of this segment, existing treatment facilities were approaching maximum operational thresholds due to regional development.
The completed phase forms a central component of Republic's long-term utility master plan. Additional engineering and construction tasks associated with the broader $145 million initiative are slated for continuation through subsequent project schedules.
