Apple Updates iMac Desktop Line with Next-Generation M6 Chips
Apple introduced an updated version of its all-in-one iMac desktop computer featuring the new M6 processor, skipping the M5 generation.

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple introduced a refreshed version of its all-in-one iMac desktop computer on Monday, integrating the company’s new M6 processor to deliver performance enhancements to the flagship desktop system. The announcement comes two days ahead of the company's scheduled product presentation later this week.
The newly announced iMac maintains the physical design and colorful exterior options of the previous generation released two years ago, while skipping the intervening M5 chip series entirely. Pricing for the updated desktop starts at $1,499, placing it at the same entry-level price point as its predecessor.
Under the hood, the M6 silicon marks Apple's transition to a 2-nanometer semiconductor process node. The chip features a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate machine learning tasks and artificial intelligence applications directly on the device, alongside improvements to general processing speeds and graphics capabilities.
The integration of the M6 chip brings the iMac into technical alignment with the updated Mac Mini desktop, which received the same processor architecture during a hardware update in August. Both desktop lines now share the same core platform specifications.
Pre-orders for the updated computer line are expected to open shortly, with official availability and retail distribution following the company's primary product showcase on Wednesday. Details regarding specific memory configurations and storage tiers will be available at launch.
