The updated streaming device introduces far-field microphones, remote tracking capabilities, and expanded surround sound integration.
Apple announced a refreshed fourth-generation Apple TV 4K during a product launch event in New York City. The updated streaming box carries a retail price of $299, positioning it above previous iterations, and introduces several internal hardware upgrades while retaining the external design of the third-generation model.
Among the primary hardware additions is an array of built-in far-field microphones. The integration enables users to communicate with the Siri voice assistant hands-free without relying on a separate remote control or smart speaker. Additionally, the included remote control now features integrated Find My location technology to assist users in pinpointing lost accessories.
The fourth-generation hardware also introduces expanded home theater functionality. The system supports wireless audio pairing with up to four second-generation HomePod or HomePod mini 2 speakers simultaneously to create a multi-channel surround sound environment.
At $299, the new unit costs more than double the starting price of the prior-generation model and represents a $50 increase over the previous top-tier configuration. Apple confirmed that the outgoing top-of-the-line model is being discontinued to clear the way for the updated hardware.
The announcement marks the first instance of Apple embedding far-field microphone technology directly into its set-top hardware, expanding native voice control capabilities across its home device portfolio.
