Apple Unveils Foldable iPhone Duo and Raises Pro Prices at Hardware Event

New Chief Executive John Ternus introduced the $1,999 foldable device alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup at the company's annual hardware showcase.

Apple unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, alongside an updated flagship lineup on Wednesday during an annual product showcase led by newly appointed Chief Executive Officer John Ternus.

The iPhone Duo features a passport-sized form factor that unfolds into a larger tablet-style display. Priced starting at $1,999, the device includes a custom polymer surface designed to reduce screen creasing, dual-battery construction, an eSIM-only design, and a 48-megapixel camera system. Pre-orders open on Oct. 16, with official retail availability set for Oct. 23.

Apple also increased pricing for its high-end smartphone series by $100. The iPhone 18 Pro will start at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max will begin at $1,299. The price increases follow similar adjustments made to Apple's Mac and iPad lines earlier this year amid sustained memory supply shortages.

In addition to the smartphone lineup, the company announced the new AirPods 5 and updated Apple Watch models equipped with enhanced artificial intelligence and health-tracking capabilities. Apple confirmed that its latest operating system, iOS 27, will be released to consumers on Sept. 14.

The presentation marked the public product debut for Ternus, who assumed the chief executive position at the start of the month. Shares of Apple closed down approximately 1 percent following the event.
