The annual iPhone software update introduces artificial intelligence tools for Siri, photo editing, and writing, along with expanded parental controls.

Apple released its iOS 27 operating system update on Monday, introducing a suite of artificial intelligence features focused primarily on enhancing the company's Siri virtual assistant. The annual software release arrives alongside corresponding updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro hardware.

The upgraded Siri can now maintain longer conversational threads, answer complex queries, and pull contextual details from across multiple applications. "Siri is now a profoundly more capable assistant that helps you find what you need and gets more done," said Mike Rockwell, Apple's vice president of Siri engineering. The update also introduces a dedicated application allowing users to manage Siri interactions across their devices.

While iOS 27 is compatible with iPhone 11 models and newer, the most advanced artificial intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or later hardware. The new Siri capabilities are initially launching in English, with partial availability currently expanding across European markets.

The operating system update incorporates additional artificial intelligence tools for writing and photo manipulation. Users can generate email drafts matched to their personal communication style, receive proofreading assistance, and adjust camera perspectives after capture through new image reframing and extension capabilities.

Beyond artificial intelligence features, iOS 27 updates built-in safety mechanisms for families. Parents gain expanded oversight tools, including granular category allowances for app usage, a revamped settings dashboard, and a feature requiring parental approval before children visit new websites.
