Apple is updating its wearable devices and smartphone platform to include new health tracking features focused on biological aging and direct blood test requests.
Apple Inc. announced new health-focused features integrated into its upcoming Apple Watch models and iPhone operating system, expanding the tech giant's footprint in personal health monitoring. The updates will allow users to track longevity metrics and directly order diagnostic blood tests from their smartphones.
The updated Apple Watch models will incorporate new algorithms designed to estimate biological age and evaluate overall physical decline over time. These longevity tools utilize continuous sensor data, including heart rate variability, sleep patterns, and daily movement metrics, to provide users with personal health assessments.
Alongside the smartwatch hardware updates, Apple is expanding its native Health application on the iPhone. Through new third-party lab integrations, users can order certified blood tests, schedule lab appointments, and view lab results directly within the app interface.
The expanded blood testing feature aims to streamline access to routine diagnostic panels, such as lipid profiles, metabolic panels, and hormone levels, without requiring an initial in-person physician visit for test requisitions.
These features mark a continued shift by major technology companies into digital health and wellness tools. Apple indicated that the new health metrics and blood testing features will begin rolling out in select markets alongside the release of its latest device lineup later this year.
