AMD Expands FSR 4.1 Upscaling Technology to Xbox Consoles and Older GPUs

Advanced image upscaling software from AMD is rolling out to Xbox Series X and S consoles, handheld devices, and older graphics processors.

Advanced Micro Devices announced the expansion of its FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 upscaling technology to additional hardware platforms, including Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, gaming handhelds, and older graphics processing units.

The software rollout begins immediately for desktop personal computers equipped with AMD Radeon RX 6000-series graphics processing units. Integration also extends to portable laptops and handheld gaming devices featuring Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series processors, alongside Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series platforms.

AMD first launched the FSR 4.1 update in March for its top-tier Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards. At that time, company executives committed to broadening hardware compatibility to include previous-generation components and partner console systems later in the year.

FidelityFX Super Resolution operates by rendering games at a lower native resolution and using advanced spatial and temporal algorithms to reconstruct the image at higher display resolutions. This process significantly improves frame rates and overall graphic performance, particularly on hardware-constrained systems such as handheld consoles and previous-generation graphics cards.

According to AMD, more than 300 gaming titles currently support the software integration. Popular titles capable of utilizing the performance enhancements include Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin's Creed Shadows.
