Amazon Expands Free Alexa Plus Access to All Fire TV Users in US

Amazon has made its generative artificial intelligence assistant Alexa Plus available to all Fire TV owners in the United States without a paid subscription.

Amazon announced Thursday that it is expanding access to its upgraded artificial intelligence assistant, Alexa Plus, to all Fire TV device owners in the United States free of charge. The rollout removes previous subscription requirements for the generative AI features on television hardware.

The update applies to users across a range of streaming hardware, including the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Amazon Ember smart TVs. The expanded access also includes third-party televisions with Alexa technology built in, such as models manufactured by Panasonic and Hisense.

Prior to the expansion, access to Alexa Plus on television platforms was restricted to customers who held an active Amazon Prime membership or a standalone Alexa Plus subscription. Under the updated policy, any registered Fire TV user in the U.S. market can access the enhanced voice assistant without paying an additional monthly fee.

The Alexa Plus system introduces conversational capabilities designed to assist viewers with content discovery and navigation. Users can request film recommendations based on specific moods, navigate directly to designated scenes within a program, and inquire about information regarding actors or events visible on screen.

The move comes as technology companies continue to integrate generative artificial intelligence directly into consumer hardware and media ecosystems. By broadening access to its AI assistant, Amazon aims to increase user engagement across its smart TV interface footprint.
