Tracking devices placed inside bulk shipments of older titles revealed that books purchased by the company were digitized and discarded at a Nevada facility.

A large-scale book purchasing operation linked to Amazon has been acquiring thousands of older and out-of-print titles, digitizing their contents, and subsequently destroying the physical copies. Tracking data indicates that the bulk acquisition scheme has been actively receiving material since at least early 2024.

Electronic tracking devices concealed inside a recent shipment of roughly 1,000 books traced the inventory directly to a specialized scanning center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The volumes were ordered in bulk from third-party sellers before being transported to the industrial facility.

Once delivered to the Las Vegas site, the physical books are processed through high-speed digitization machinery to capture their text into digital repositories. Following the completion of the scanning phase, the original physical copies are shredded or rendered unreadable rather than being returned to circulation or resold.

Logistics records show a consistent pattern of high-volume book shipments directed to the same facility over the past year. Independent booksellers reported a surge in automated, large-scale purchases targeting out-of-print and obscure titles from online marketplace listings.

The ultimate commercial or technological application for the newly created digital texts has not been publicly detailed. It remains unclear whether the digitization effort is intended to train artificial intelligence models, expand digital library catalogs, or support internal database development.
